Just Pat

Alas, Poor Pat

I have seen my end. It is senseless and dark, and happens in the Meijer parking lot.

I walk toward the store entrance. A BMW convertible illegally crosses three aisles of parking spaces at 30 miles an hour. The driver prats into her cell phone, clipping me, sending me flailing, flying helplessly into the cart coral. Oblivious of the world around her, completely focused on her important call, my flight is unnoticed.

As I perish, she parks. Faintly I hear "Okay, I'm here babe. Gotta go!" Bleep.

The world around me fades to black. My hand slips slowly from the toppled grocery cart and lands limp and lifeless on an in-store ad for Sprint Wireless.
